Ascorbyl Glucoside
Ascorbyl Glucoside is a photo-protective, brightening, collagen boosting, and moisturising agent. It is a vitamin C derivative synthesized from ascorbic acid and starch using enzymes. Glucose stabilizes the vitamin C from oxidative degradation, and it shows a superior ability to penetrate the skin.1
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger. It helps protect cells from the onslaught of oxidative stress from pollution, UV rays, and more. These stressors are the main catalyst of photoaging. Vitamin C also plays a vital role in maintaining and building collagen in the skin. It “acts as a co-factor for the proline and lysine hydroxylases that stabilise the collagen molecule tertiary structure, and it also promotes collagen gene expression” to form new collagen in the skin.1 Last but not least, vitamin C can inhibit melanin synthesis for a bright, luminous complexion.1
