why we use kaolin

The Basics

Kaolin is a naturally occurring, soft clay composed primarily of kaolinite, a hydrous aluminium silicate. Recognised for its mild yet effective absorbent properties, it helps draw out excess oil, impurities, and environmental toxins from the skin without stripping essential moisture. Unlike harsher clays, kaolin is gentle and non-drying, making it suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Its fine particle size also provides mild exfoliation, aiding in the removal of dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion. Rich in trace minerals, kaolin supports skin clarity and contributes to a refreshed, balanced appearance.

Kaolin in Cleanser

At low concentrations, like in our Cloud Melt cleanser, kaolin serves a complementary role rather than a primary purifying agent. In this context, it enhances texture, contributing to a creamy, luxurious feel while helping to stabilise emulsions. It provides a subtle mattifying effect and supports mild oil absorption without compromising skin hydration. Its soft, non-abrasive nature ensures gentle cleansing, making it an excellent addition to daily-use cleansers designed for comfort and effectiveness.
