Polyacrylate-13

A skin-friendly synthetic polymer that functions to protect skin’s surface, thicken product consistency, and help keep formulas stable. In our formulas, Polyacrylate-13 is part of a proprietary thickener-emulsifier and combines with polyisobutene and polysorbate 20 to create supple, silicone-like textures without the use of silicones.

Polyacrylate polymers work by gelling the water in a product to help suspend particles and oil droplets. Unlike natural polymers (i.e. xanthan gum), there is no slimy, stringy effect. Better yet, polyacrylate polymers don’t add to the microbial burden. Polyacrylate-13 can stabalise a high percentage of oils (up to 50%!) and active ingredients where other thickeners would fail. With its aptitude in particle suspension it can optimise delivery of those actives as well. It provides a smooth, bouncy, pleasant texture and forms a light layer over the skin’s surface to protect and lock in moisture.
