why we use triolein

What is triolein?

Triolein is a triglyceride composed of glycerol and three oleic acid molecules, commonly found in natural oils like olive and almond oil. In cosmetic formulations, it is valued for its ability to enhance the absorption of active ingredients into the skin while providing a soft, silky skin feel. Its emollient properties contribute to a smooth application and leave the skin feeling hydrated without a greasy residue.

Penetration Enhancing Properties

Research indicates that fatty acids, particularly those with a C18:1 chain length like oleic acid, can act as effective penetration enhancers. Triolein, being rich in oleic acid, has been shown to facilitate the transport of various ingredients into the skin by modifying the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum, thereby increasing skin permeability. This makes it highly effective in formulations aimed at improving the delivery of actives in both skincare and haircare.
